Logging Causes Cannibalism

Wednesday July 30, 2003
This forest blog is written by a guy from forests.org who presents things in a way that will interest some of you. He, in the very least, will cause you to think. For some of you he will hit a nerve. You might want to reply to some of his assertions as his blog does allow comments.
One typical but controversial blog hits on several taboo subjects (cannibalism and evolution) to hammer the African rainforest logger. He contends that eating a primate is "akin to cannibalism". Says Glen Barry, as "humans are eating their closest relatives, large forests are disappearing forever, and the Earth shows signs of ecological collapse."
Barry is very descriptive about how the animals are being eaten. He points an accusing finger almost completely at "a tenacious symbiosis between logging and hunting". This partnership "has taken root and a thriving commercial enterprise in bushmeat has exploded."
