Review of Illustrated Encyclopedia of Trees

Saturday September 13, 2003
David More, illustrator of The Illustrated Encylopedia of Trees, paints himself a tree masterpiece. With John White's accompanying text, Mr. More exhibits the most important ornamental trees on this planet in one 800 page document. Moore leaves no tree leaf or bark fissure to the imagination - everything is illustrated.

Over 1,000 trees are shown together with cultivar information and a brief history of their introduction to cultivation. Most species have growth, hardiness, wood and choice ratings for those who are interested in both horticultural and commercial forestry applications. It is a massive, colorful book and should not be considered a field guide but an addition to your botanical library.

The book explains why so many North American trees have been cultivated in Europe and how forests in the Western Hemisphere are of major importance to British and European landscapes. The book is easily written for the layman and a fascinating picture book of tree features.
