Global Positioning System GIS Glossary

Monday January 10, 2005
If you are an outdoor enthusiast you have probably heard of a Global Positioning System receiver or GPS unit. You may even be considering buying a GPS. This incredible little handheld computer along with an array of satellites will keep you informed as to where you are at any point on the face of the earth - but in addition a good receiver can measure distance, find and record exact locations, measure area plus much more.
But with this new found technology comes a terminology that has to be understood at a very basic level. I have created a GPS Glossary that lists definitions to many of the terms necessary when using GPS. And when you decide to purchase a new unit, refer to my Before You Buy an Outdoor GPS on outdoor GPS unit essential specifications.
