The California Sawtooth Fire in San Bernardino County's Yucca Valley is threatning to combine with the smaller Millard Fire to become the largest wildland fire presently burning in the United States. The combination of these two fires will make firefighting conditions much worse. That Sawtooth Complex fire is now 48,000 acres in size, only 16% of the fire contained and has distroyed 150 structures. The two fires were only 3 miles apart late yesterday.
Courtney Gable, About's Los Angeles Guide, has some
specific information on local conditions
. "The Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at the Yucca Valley High School Gym to provide overnight shelter and meals. An additional shelter is at Big Bear Elementary School."
