'Chanticleer' Callery Pear - Urban Tree of the Year

Wednesday March 19, 2008
'Chanticleer' Callery Pear was selected Urban Tree of the Year for 2005 as determined by responses to an annual survey in arborist magazine City Trees. This callery pear has been determined to be an improvement over the 'Bradford' pear which has several bad characteristics that make it less desirable to plant.

The 'Chanticleer' Callery Pear is a cultivar and partly selected because of its unique combination of good traits including great form and resistance to blight and limb breakage. The tree is also exceptionally cold-hardy, heavily flowered in the spring with richly colored purple-red leaves in the fall.
