Test Your Skill Identifying Common Spring Wildflowers

Sunday April 5, 2009

Try you luck identifying some of the earliest blooming forest plants. All of the flowers in this quiz are common but most only seen in the eastern United States. Just can't seem to make it out West in the Spring.

One early blooming beauty is bigleaf magnolia. One of nine eastern magnolias, umbrella-tree or bigleaf magnolia grows the largest flower of any native North American tree species. The flowers are cup-shaped and from 10 to 12 inches wide. This species gets its name from the umbrella-like arrangement of the long leaves.

Steve:

The title was a bit misleading . . . “identifying flowerS.” I was looking forward to ten or so flowers. When it was one flower I was disappointed. It wasn’t worth my time for one.

It felt like it was a teaser to read all the ads. Please don’t tease anymore. Or I may quit reading you.

My sincerest apology. The link was trciky to use. By clicking around I finally found quiz I and even quiz II. This is just what I was hoping for. I look forward to spending time with both of them to see how I can do.

Thanks for your work.

Hi Chuck! I must have written that thing in a haze. I think it is much clearer now as it was quite confusing and linked to a test question. Thanks for the comment and concern…
