There are times when a price must be paid, both in time and financially, for owing a tree. A tree can have a major effect on your pocket book if not planted with some planning and managed correctly. Here are the major ways a tree can pick your pocket.
- Trees have planting and management costs
- Fully grown trees can be more costly and dangerous
- Some trees cause allergies
- Tree messes can be hard to clean
- Trees limit electronic signals to many devices
Hey, maybe none of these issues will come up between you and your tree. Still, I provide this reality checklist as a bit of a counterpoint to my last blog. Trees are like most things worth growing, you need to make some preparation for a new tree and commit some time toward giving it a good start. Someone told me once that there is no such thing as a free puppy. It just may apply to tree seedlings in some cases.

Trees can also affect safety and reliability by not planting the appropriate species near power lines. Utilities spend millions of dollars to ensure safe and reliable power that people have relied upon, yet they continue to plant tall trees to close to power lines and then complain when the utility has to prune them
