American basswood or Tilia americana is a tree in the linden family (and sometimes called American linden). The tree loves to grow as multiple trunks off old stump sprouts and enjoys moister forest locations. Basswood's green-yellow flowers appear at about year 15 and sprout from the base of leaf-like bracts in unique clusters. These flowers ooze a sappy nectar in June and attract bees in great numbers - thus the name bee tree. I have completed an introduction to one of North America's most common but unique trees.
