A Fire Lane in Alabama, Steve Nix

Millions of acres of forest land are burned annually - and on purpose. These "prescribed fires", when properly performed by a skilled prescriptivist, enhance fire dependent ecosystems and prevent conditions that lead to uncontrolled wildfire. Permanent fire lanes are critical for safely using fire as a land management tool. They also provide access for suppressing wildfires that threaten personal property.  Fire lanes also increase access to forested properties where recreation is valued and provide a source of food for wildlife if maintained.  One great quote says it all, "fire is a poor master but a good servant". Fire lanes help tame the fire  beast.
