Summer Forestry Employment for Kids

Dateline 1/13/2000

The USDA Forest Service is offering students the opportunity to work closely with each other as a team of interns. Each team will design and implement conservation education programs for urban and rural youth, ranging in age from 6 to 14 years. Teams are formed to meet the following objectives:

  1. To reach children through interactive activities on topics, such as natural resources and the environment, and
  2. To spark an interest in natural resource careers among young people with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Employment will start on May 30, 2000 through August 11, 2000. After a 1-week orientation in Asheville, NC to Forest Service operations and the conservation education program, the interns will travel to their selected duty stations in either Milwaukee, WI; Asheville, NC; Atlanta, GA; or Huntsville, AL.

A selected intern may be employed until August 25, 2000 to complete a final-accomplishment report documenting the program.
