Can my car damage trees near the driveway?

By Steve Nix, About.com

Question: Can my car damage trees near the driveway?
Answer: You bet it can!
The bark of a tree trunk is the part of a tree that usually gets the bad end of cars and riding lawnmowers. These wounds are especially damaging during the spring and early summer when the cambium is active and the bark is "slipping". Partcularly vulnerable are trees planted near driveways, street curbs and parking lots.
Use your car to tap, firmly, the tree bark. Remember that tree roots just hate cars parking on top of them so expose some roots for full effect.
