Harmony with land is like harmony with a friend;
you cannot cherish his right hand and chop off his left...
You cannot love game and hate predators;
You cannot conserve the waters and waste the ranges;
You cannot build the forest and mine the farm.
The land is one organism.
"The Round River" - Aldo Leopold
We all know what a forest looks like. But most of us don't know how complex
forests can be and how foresters manage trees and forests for our benefit. This
first in a series of forestry lessons will acquaint you with the study and
practice of
forestry.
I am assuming you are taking this beginning forestry course because you are
interested in trees, forests and forestry. The first lesson begins with quizzes to help establish your personal forestry benchmark -
to find out how much you really
know about trees and forests.
Take these quizzes first, study the correct answers and if you decide this
is for you, take the next eight free lessons by personal newsletter. Making an honest
effort here is a major step toward understanding the art
and science of forestry and silviculture.
Take the quizzes again at the end of the eCourse and see how much you have
improved.
