The fight over selling timber on our National Forest is long running. I expect it will continue a bit longer.

The Forest Reserve Act of 1891, signed by President Benjamin Harrison, set the process of having public forests in motion.  The Organic Act of 1897 was later enacted to insure "predictable sources of water and timber" by securing a National Forest System.

The Forest Service  is now under great pressure to discontinue selling timber.  A public demand for non-timber use of our forest system  is eroding the "multiple use" concept introduced by Gifford Pinchot.

What's your pleasure?  Stop cutting timber or continue the harvest...

Also continue to vote for your favorite forester contact.  Looks like consultants have an edge...but the voting hasn't been exactly overwhelming.
