USFS "Fireproofing" in Colorado
Hot Shot Crew Protecting the Urban Interface: "In
Colorado, near Buena Vista, Chaffee county. The timber type is Ponderosa
pine transitioning to Doug fir and lodgepole... I was given a task to thin and
fireproof and by gollies I am. I marked it for fuel wood and got 232CCF to
sell, then these ya-hoos showed up and we ex-ped-iated the project. It
ain't done yet but getting there. The 20 person crew is from Denali
Alaska, one of three hotshot crews that call Alaska home. They are rotated
in and out on 14 day shifts." - ZOBATBEJ
