Western juniper and pine of Cibola:  This semiarid forest of juniper and scattered pine is located in western New Mexico near Magdalena, New Mexico.   The last commercial timber harvest in this Cibola National Forest ranger district occurred in 1976.The ghost town of Kelly thrived in the late 1800's only to be abandoned in 1946.
Nantahala National Forest and the Betty Creek/AT access trail

Eastern hemlock understory in a yellow-poplar cove off Betty Creek Trail:  The Nantahala National Forest sits adjacent to Great Smokey Mountains National Park.  The forest's three-mile long Betty Creek Trail accesses the Appalachian Trail near Dillard, Georgia.  You are walking through some of richest soil and cleanest streams in Eastern North America.
