Osage orange with its "green
brain" (Tennessee)
Osage orange (Maclura pomifera): The fruit looks
like "a green brain". Native only to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and
Texas river valleys, osage orange was planted as "living fences"
before the advent of barbed wire.
