North American Tree Species

American Basswood (Tillia americana):  Also called linden, this tree is a prolific honeydew producer, attracts both aphids and bees (read: not to good for cars parked underneath) and is sometimes know as a "humming tree".   The tree has an invasive host called the linden looper (caterpillar).   Interestingly, the common house sparrow was introduced into North America to manage this caterpillar.  The biological control measure failed.
