Redbud in Tupelo, Mississippi
Redbud at Elvis' Birthplace: Cercis canadensis or
eastern redbud is found throughout the Eastern United States. It is a
spreading tree with short trunk and long branches. This small tree
is closely related to the Judas tree (Cercis siliquastrum) on which myth
suggests Judas Iscariot hanged himself. Redbud is very popular as an
ornamental. It is not myth that this tree commands a major presence in the front
yard of Elvis Presley's birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi.
