"Basket oak" with some fall color

Swamp chestnut oak (Quercus michauxii):  Also called "basket oak" because baskets were woven from strips obtained by splitting the wood.  They made strong containers and were constructed and used by slaves in the "old south" to carry cotton from the fields.
