Sweetbay Magnolia  (Callaway Gardens, Georgia)

Sweetbay (Magnolia virginiana):  The sweetbay tree is semievergreen in the South, but drops leaves in winter in its northeastern range.   The tree grows from Massachusetts to Florida in swamps and other moist places.
