Aesculus glabra
Ohio buckeye
Ohio buckeye was first found by early botanists on the bank of the Ohio River. A. glabra has a strong, offensive bark and leaf smell and is also named fetid or stinking buckeye. Interestingly, native Indians named the fruit "eye-of-a-buck" which translate to buckeye. This fruit is poisonous to humans but is an important squirrel food. The leaf is digitately compound or palmate.
