Forestry 101

Forestry is big business in the United States.  Wood-using industries are located in nearly every state and they provide year-round jobs for millions of people.   The private timber owner, however, is the cog that runs the whole resource side.  With the U.S. Forest Service selling less and less wood, 10 million private owners now feel increased pressure to sell wood - and to produce more wood.

Unfortunately, most tree owners are not prepared to grow a forest.  The two most frequent questions asked of forestry organizations are "Where do I start?" and "Who can I find to help me with my woodlands?"   Forestry 101 is designed to get a forest owner off to a quick start, to use the Internet as an educational tool for developing a forest and to help answer intitial forest management and tree care questions.
