F.A.Q.
- Q. I have a tree I need to identify. Can you help me?A. I have a collection of sites that will help you identify most common trees native to North America. I always recommend people start by using my Tree Leaf Key if you have a tree leaf. I also have a Tree Identification Guide that walks you through the identification process.
If all else fails, post a digital photo on the About Forestry Forum for quick identification. - Q. Where can I find tree seedlings and information on how to plant them?A. Almost every state forestry agency has information on how to plant trees and how to get seedlings. Many states also produce tree seedlings at reasonable rates. Check your state forestry agency for more information about their nursery operations. I also provide a link page to some of the better sites about tree planting. This page also includes a directory to most nurseries in the United States.
- Q. How do I start a career in forestry and get my first job?A. Not all forestry work and jobs in conservation require the same training. You must first decide what you want to do in the field of forestry and conservation. A good first blush with forestry employment is to read my FAQ on forestry employment. Another valuable resource is my About Forestry Forum. Many foresters read posts at this forum. If you are lucky, someone just might need you.
- Q. I need forestry assistance. Can you help or direct me to a forester or someone who can help me with my trees?A. I am not in the business of doing specific requests. I can't take the place of a forester that can personally visit your trees. I am not able to assist you much beyond the beginning stages of forestry.
You are welcome to post a question on our Bulletin Board where there are professionals just waiting to help. You can also contact several organizations for assistance like the Association of Consulting Foresters or the National Association of State Foresters for contacts.
