Over a billion trees are grown and harvested annually in nurseries all over North America. Many look just like this nursery which is owned by the State of Mississippi.
Philip Wilson, nursery superintendent of this large pine tree nursery has taken pictures of the harvesting process and agreed to give you a tour of his facility. Philip can easily claim decades of experience running tree seedling nurseries.

The Seedling Harvester
A full bed seedling harvester consists of a tractor pulling a seedling "lifter". This lifter and an operator can gather as many as 1 million trees a day. The lifter actually brings the seedling up and out of the bed for collecting in seedling tubs. More Lifting Photos

Philip Wilson comments:
"This particular harvester has the capability of harvesting 125,000 seedlings per hour and "lifts" the entire 4 foot wide bed in one pass. The harvester travels at about 1 mph."
