Containers are usually stacked on racks that are designed for optimum air circulation.
Philip Wilson comments:
"Pallets are stacked and moved into cold storage facilities that are designed to reduce bale temperatures to 40 degrees F and maintain moisture in the bales. We have the capability to store 6 million seedlings in our seedling cooler. These facilities are computer controlled from my desk and I can monitor facilities and keep data on storage conditions.
Total air exposure time on seedlings is about 30 seconds and time from removed from the field until placed in a bundle and into the seedling cooler is less than 30 minutes.
Seedlings are transported to refrigerated state wide distribution points via refrigerated vans for customer pickups. All seedling trips are monitored with remote temperature sensors which record transit conditions and these are logged and saved on each delivery."
