"quick reflexes":

"Quite a few years ago I was using a 90' loggers tape to lay out strips in an area where my crew had reported seeing several buzz tails. All the sudden I heard the distinctive buzz very nearby and did my patented world record backwards leap, but the buzz was still right with me. After several more leaps and a frantic version of the four letter word dance, with the "snake" still right next to me, the buzzing gradually slowed down to a stop, and I realized that the "snake rattle" was my loggers tape (attached to my belt) that had broken, and was spinning in its case." - BaldBob

"Did almost the same thing. Put the cell phone on vibrate. Had it in my pants pocket. Couldn't shake that damm snake." - Forester4

"My phone is one of those newer flat ones and frequently I just shove it down into my back pocket to keep from losing it out of my shirt pocket. It's uncanny how many times you can get a call when you're bending over to pick up the pencil you dropped right in the edge of a brush pile or in some knee-deep ferns around a spring head. Sometimes I wish I could see myself when that happens, it would have to be amusing to an onlooker." - MSUforester

"I almost had a heart attack while walking through the woods with a landowner once. We were strolling along a woods road talking when he screamed and yelled and started cussing like a sailor. I had no idea what was up until I saw him start poking at a small stick with his walking staff to see if it was a snake. He said, 'There are two kinds of snakes, 1) Snakes and 2) Sticks that look like snakes. I'm scared of both kinds!' We narrowly escaped being bitten by a small stick that morning thanks to his quick reflexes." - MSUforester
