Beautiful Wild Callery Pear - Looks May be Deceiving

But did you know that callery pear can be invasive?

From Steve Nix, About.com

Callery pear has quickly become the most popular ornamental tree in North America. You know the pear by names like 'Bradford', 'Aristocrat', 'Cleveland Select'.

The Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana) was originally introduced into the United States from China in the early 1900's. These trees are highly prized for a springtime display of white showy flowers, their rich fall leaf color, and will grow under nearly all conditions.

Within the last decade, wild Pyrus calleryana trees have begun appearing and multiplying in forested areas, especially where there has been disturbance. You will see them on the edges of abandoned fields near urban/wildland interface, along railroads, roads, and along park boundaries. These "wild" trees come from cultivated callery pears in urban yards where the fruit is dispersed by birds including the introduced starling.
