Canopy

Definition: The canopy is a layer or multiple layers of branches and foliage at the top or crown of a forest's trees. The term "canopy cover" is associated with the percent of a fixed area covered by the crown of an individual plant species or an entire forest. Canopy cover can also be called land cover and often used for wildlife habitat evaluations.
