2007 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree From Shelton, Connecticut
Friday November 9, 2007
This year's Rockefeller Center Norway spruce is from Shelton, Connecticut. It weighs 9 tons, stands 84-feet high with a spread of 45 feet. Tree owners, Joe and Judy Rivnyak said "it was bittersweet to let the spruce go." They said the tree was planted in 1947. Four of the past nine Rockefeller Center Christmas trees have come from Connecticut, including Norway spruces from Ridgefield last year, Manchester in 2003 and Killingworth in 1999.
Each year, the selected spruce is attached to a 280-ton crane that holds the tree's full weight when the cut is completed. The tree is then placed on a custom-made, telescoping trailer which takes a crew of 15-20 people to get the entire job done. This year's tree was transported yesterday to Rockefeller Center in New York City, USA for lighting on November 28.
