Leaf display of a black locust (Otto, North
Carolina)
Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia): On rainy days
and dusk the individual black locust leaflets will fold and the entire leaf will
droop. The last continental glaciation and almost wiped this tree out,
confining it to a small area of the southern Appalachians. Black locusts
outside this area are their progeny.
