The fruit is small, an inch or less in diameter, but some of trees produce very large quantities of this small fruit. Most experts agree that it is probably birds that eat portions of the pome that contain seeds. Seeds are then disseminated far and wide and new hybrid callery pears are popping up in vacant lots and along roadsides.
